THE SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS PRESENTS SHEPHERD’S SMOKIN’ SUMMER KICKOFF BBQ FESTIVAL AND CONCERT SERIES FEATURING COUNTRY STARS CHRIS JANSON AND RAELYNN.
BRANSON, MO. – The Shepherd of the Hills will be hosting the first annual Smokin’ Summer Kickoff, in partnership with the Kansas City Barbeque Society. The festival will be held May 25-26 and features a star-studded concert on Friday. Along with great music, festivalgoers will be able to sample and vote on award-winning BBQ, enjoy ice cold beer, and participate in other exciting events such as a boat, RV and hobby sport show, a kid’s zone, fireworks show, a special Saturday showing of the Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Drama and more.
The concert will be Friday, May 25 at 7 p.m., with headliners Chris Janson and RaeLynn, two of country music’s hottest artists.
Chris Janson is a name that country music listeners know well. His hit song “Buy Me a Boat” has over 80 million views on YouTube and was the #1 song on the Billboard Country Music charts for multiple weeks a few years ago. His latest album Everybody was released in 2017 and includes chart-topping songs such as “I Can Fix a Drink” and “Everybody,” which are consistent favorites on country music radio.
RaeLynn first made a name for herself when she teamed up with Blake Shelton as her coach on the hit television series The Voice. Since then, she has been touring with country music mega-stars like Sara Evans, Blake Shelton, and Luke Bryan. Her 2017 album WildHorse maintained the #1 position on the Billboard Country Music charts for multiple weeks.

In addition to the award-winning country music concert, festivalgoers will have the opportunity to sample world-class barbecue from over 50 professional barbecue teams participating in the Kansas City Barbecue Society cook-off competition. These teams hail from all over the nation and will be competing for a cash purse of over $15,000. Beginning Friday, guests can sample several categories of barbecued meats and place votes for the People’s Choice award for “Best BBQ.” The festival concludes on Saturday evening with the Kansas City Barbecue Society competition awards ceremony at 6 p.m. and a special showing of The Shepherd of the Hills outdoor drama at dusk. Admission to the festival is only $10 per adult and $5 per child under 12.
Additional activities will be available Friday and Saturday including a free kid’s zone for families, a boat, RV, and sport hobby show, and fireworks show scheduled for both Friday and Saturday night. The Shepherd of the Hills will also have its on-property attractions open including Inspiration Tower, the new Ozark Off-Road ATV trail rides, Vigilante Extreme ZipRider® and more.
